Ooops! I wish I had learned that a little sooner!

You learn something new everyday, right? This is a lesson that I wish I had learned a lot sooner! I want to share it with you so I can save you from making this very pricey mistake.

About a week after I made this video, my new (very expensive) Iwata airbrush gun was all kinds of clogged up and I could not get it to work. I cleaned it with my new Temptu cleaner. I took it apart and diligently cleaned every tiny piece. When the needle was out, both air and liquid would spray out and the bowl would empty. As soon as I put the needle in, I could not get any liquid to pass thru. Only air was flowing thru the gun.

Full on panic mode set in for a few days as I struggled to figure this out. I am about to launch into a really busy time of year and I can not have this kind of equipment failure. I immediately sent frantic messages to my fellow makeup artist pals, Peggy and Shannon. Both of these fabulous ladies called me back immediately with some great ideas for possible solutions.

This is what I LOVE about my makeup artist friends, we totally have each others back when things like this happen. Peggy suggested I change out the needle. It could have been clogged up or damaged from the alcohol that I had been mixing with silicone for the past few months. It also could have been bent.  Shannon told me how to remove the frontal housing from the gun (which I also never knew before!) and suggested I consider replacing the nozzle.

Seriously, I love these girls. I went right out to Hobby Lobby, since you can buy Iwata parts there, and got a new needle and nozzle. They are a tad more expensive than ordering them online but it was an urgent situation and I needed this immediately.

Do you have any tips on how to maintain airbrush equipment? Did you find this post helpful?
